Bigmate releases MMU Personnel & Vehicle Detection and Intervention System

Bigmate announces the release of its MMU Personnel & Vehicle Detection and Intervention System, an advanced perception-based safety solution designed to reduce the risk of high-potential interactions in surface mining before they occur.

Behind it is more than eight years of proven Bigmate engineering in mining, spanning spatial analysis, machine learning, detection and classification.

Now engineered specifically for Mobile Manufacturing Units (MMUs), the system uses front and rear hemispherical LiDAR to perceive the operating environment directly, detecting, classifying and tracking both people and vehicles in real time.

• No hardware required on surrounding people or machines

This perception-based analysis is capable of supporting a 99.99986% accuracy solution within validated operating conditions.

But after eight years of engineering these systems, one thing has become increasingly clear in the industry:

When the Bigmate MMU solution identifies a protection zone in a high-risk state, it can inhibit machine movement until the area is clear.

Where configured, it can also issue a graduated control command to an integrated mechanical braking actuator, physically applying the brake without modifying the OEM braking or electronic control architecture.
